Collection consists of a single ledger book compiled by Margaret P. Evans, the wife of John Evans, first governor of the Territory of Colorado (1862-1865). Margaret P. Evans was a well-known philanthropist, helping to found the Denver Orphans Home and the Denver Branch of the YWCA.

John Evans (1814-1897), born in Ohio, studied medicine and settled in Indiana, but moved to Chicago in 1848 to accept the chair in obstetrics in Rush Memorial College.
